The renovation work of the Kularatne Hall has been completed and the Hon. Minister for Education was the chief guest at the opening ceremony held on 26th August. Haren Punchihewa represented our Association at the ceremony.
We wish to announce the decision taken by the AOA-UK committee to donate £12,500.00 (around 2.5 million Rs.) of additional funds for the Kularatne Hall re-development project at Ananda (March). The donation was handed over by Haren, our Projects Sub-committee Co-ordinator, when he was in Sri Lanka in August.
The OBA (SL) has informed that the Kularatne Hall Project has reached the interior decoration stage and was progressing into the provisioning of lighting and acoustics phase. The cost of lighting and acoustics for the Hall, which is estimated at Rs.3m, is funded by the AoA (UK). We understand from the OBA(SL) that the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2004. The AOA (UK) has forwarded cheques to the value of Rs.3m via Mr.Abeyratne (Principal) for the Kularatne Hall Project fund.

The photo shows the cheques being handed over on behalf of the AoA(UK) by Dhane (President) to Haren (Project coordinator) with Janaka(Secretary), Jerry(Treasurer), Tissa(Vice-President) and Harsha(Vice-President) looking on. (August 2004)
The AOA-UK committee approved the donation of £17.5k (around 3 million SL Rupees) to fund the Kularatne Hall re-development project at Ananda College.
This is the biggest single project we have supported since the inception of the Association and all our members in UK are eagerly awaiting the completion of the project. The re-development of the College hall is a major project Ananda College has embarked upon in the recent years and forms a key feature of the College modernisation programme. This sponsorship from the UK Old Anandians will fund the total interior lighting and the acoustic system costs. Once it is completed it will be by far the best theatre/hall in any school in Sri Lanka with its state of the art technology. It will be a mini version of the BMICH auditorium and will host plays, conferences and other show event.
The Ananda Old Boys Association in Sri Lanka is the main sponsor of the project and their target is to complete the re-development before the end of 2004. Haren Punchihewa is the project coordinator for the AoA (UK). (June)
