Welcome

Col. Olcott Memorial Daana 2011
The annual daana in memory of Col Henry Steel Olcott was held as usual at the London Buddhist Vihara Chiswick on the 5th of November this year. The religious activities was completed with the transfer of merits lead by the head of the Vihara, Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala to Col. Olcott and all those who were instrumental in establishing a chain of Buddhist schools starting with Ananda in 1886 and also to past members of staff who have not only given a good educational background to so many but also shown the way to become good citizens based on Buddhist ethics.
The daana was followed by Ven. Seelawimala addressing the gathering on the very significant role played by Col. Olcott as the spark, which was needed at the time without whose support the subsequent awakening especially in the education sector may never have taken place. Dr. Narada Wiyatilake brought the day's proceedings to a close with a speech about the former Principal at Ananda, Mr.P de S Kularatne, who played a very important part in the development of Ananda in particular and the spread of education in Sri Lanka in general as an educationist first and then also as a politician.
